Michael Schumacher's Latest
In December 2013, whilst enjoying a family skiing holiday in Switzerland, Michael Schumacher collided with a tree and as a consequence he has suffered near-fatal head injuries. In September 2014 he was placed in an induced coma with a professional medical team in his home near Lake Geneva.
At The Will Associates we have been deeply saddened by this tragic accident to one of F1's greatest. But as a company in the estate planning arena we can't help our professional initiative kicking-in when we see or read of such devastating events.
It has been reported that the Schumacher family spend £115,000 per week on his private medical fees. Let's hope that Michael had a Lasting Power of Attorney in place (or the equivalent of) at the time of his accident. If he was UK citizen he would have to of had a Lasting Power of Attorney in place to have his Attorney - whom he would of chosen himself - take control of his Property & Financial Affairs and Health & Welfare and prevent the Court of Protection appointing a Deputy after his family applying for one, this is a very costly and time consuming process.
Lasting Power of Attorney are legal documents that can outline, should you be unable to manage your own affairs, the people you have appointed to manage your financial life on your behalf. This can save a great deal of money and distress, and will ensure that, as a vulnerable person, your affairs will be handled correctly and quickly.
The Will Associates cannot predict the future, but what we can do is provide you with the provisions for your future, should the worst occur.
